PMI PgMP® Training Prerequisites

To be eligible for the program management professional PgMP® certification, you must meet one of the following sets of requirements (all experience must be within the past 15 years):

Option 1:

  • Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree, or global equivalent)
  • Either a current PMP® certification or at least 48 months (4 years) of project management experience
  • At least 84 months (7 years) of program management experience

Option 2:

  • Four-year degree (bachelor’s degree or global equivalent)
  • Either a current PMP® certification or at least 48 months (4 years) of project management experience
  • At least 48 months (4 years) of program management experience

PgMP Exam Content Outline — Six Performance Domains for 2026

The PgMP ECO covers six performance domains: Program Strategy Alignment, which focuses on connecting program objectives to organizational strategy; Benefits Management, which covers identification, planning, delivery, transition, and sustainment of program benefits; Stakeholder Engagement, covering identification, planning, and ongoing engagement with complex stakeholder environments; Governance, covering program oversight, decision escalation, and risk oversight; Program Lifecycle Management, covering formulation, preparation, execution, and closure phases; and Supporting Processes, covering schedule, resource, risk, and quality integration across the program. vCare Project Management  training provides deep coverage of all six domains with scenario-based learning and practice questions aligned to the current ECO.

The PgMP Application Process — Panel Review Explained

The PgMP application process is more rigorous than the PMP. After submitting your application with documented experience, PMI conducts an initial review. A subset of applications is selected for audit, during which you must provide documentation verifying your claimed experience. After the audit, eligible candidates face a Panel Review — a structured assessment where a panel of PgMP-certified practitioners evaluates written responses about your program management experience. vCare Project Management provides dedicated application support and panel review coaching, helping candidates present their experience clearly, accurately, and in terms that align with PMI's program management framework.
