PMI-RMP® Prerequisites

To be eligible for the PMI-RMP® exam, you must meet education, experience, and training requirements as outlined by PMI:

  • With a 4-Year Degree (Bachelor’s degree or global equivalent):
    At least 24 months of project risk management experience in the last 5 years
    30 contact hours of formal risk management education

  • With a Secondary Diploma (high school diploma, associate’s degree, or global equivalent):
    At least 36 months of project risk management experience in the last 5 years
    40 contact hours of formal risk management education

  • With a GAC-Accredited Degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or global equivalent from a PMI GAC-accredited program):
    At least 12 months of project risk management experience in the last 5 years
    30 contact hours of formal risk management education

Course Content

  • Overview of PMI-RMP® certification and exam domains
  • The role of risk management in organizational success
  • Risk management standards, principles, and terminology
  • Perform preliminary document analysis (benchmarks, lessons learned, historical data).
  • Assess project environment for threats and opportunities using OPAs, EEFs, PESTLE, and SWOT.
  • Confirm risk thresholds based on organizational appetite and constraints.
  • Establish risk management strategy, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Develop the Risk Management Plan, including communication strategy, prioritization criteria, and RACI.
  • Lead and engage stakeholders in building a culture of risk awareness.
  • Conduct risk identification exercises (interviews, workshops, focus groups, expert analysis).
  • Examine assumptions and constraints for potential risks.
  • Document triggers, thresholds, and consequences.
  • Develop and validate the risk register, categorizing risks as threats or opportunities.
  • Assess risks based on probability, impact, and urgency.
  • Prioritize risks using risk matrices, predefined criteria, and categorization.
  • Evaluate the effect of risks on project objectives (scope, cost, schedule, quality).
  • Facilitate stakeholder involvement in risk prioritization.
  • Apply advanced techniques such as Monte Carlo simulation, decision trees, and Expected Monetary Value (EMV).
  • Perform sensitivity and trend analysis to evaluate risk exposure.
  • Quantify the potential impact of risks on project performance.
  • Align quantitative results with strategic and compliance objectives for informed decision-making.
  • Define response strategies (avoid, mitigate, transfer, accept, exploit, enhance, share).
  • Assign owners and responsibilities for response actions.
  • Communicate effectiveness of responses using risk burndown charts and performance metrics.
  • Execute risk response and contingency plans, monitor residual and secondary risks, and adjust as needed.
  • Monitor and report ongoing risks.
  • Foster continuous improvement and stakeholder empowerment.
  • Review PMI-RMP® exam blueprint, preparation strategies, and practice exam insights.
